Iblees Ki Majlis E Shura: A Satirical Poem by Iqbal

Iblees Ki Majlis E Shura (The Parliament of Satan) is a famous Urdu poem by Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. It was first published in 1936 in his collection Bal-e-Jibril (The Wings of Gabriel). The poem is a satire on the political and social situation of the Muslim world in the early 20th century. It depicts a meeting of Satan and his advisers, who discuss how to prevent the revival of Islam and its followers.

The poem consists of two parts: the first part describes the setting and the agenda of the meeting, and the second part presents the speeches of six advisers, each representing a different aspect of the Muslim decline. The advisers are: Sheikh-ul-Jabal (The Old Man of the Mountain), who represents the sectarianism and fanaticism of the Muslims; Mir Sufi (The Mystic), who represents the mysticism and asceticism of the Muslims; Mir Jafar (The Traitor), who represents the treachery and corruption of the Muslims; Mir Sadiq (The Loyalist), who represents the loyalty and servility of the Muslims to their foreign rulers; Hakim Luqman (The Wise Man), who represents the rationalism and materialism of the Muslims; and Doctor Iblees (The Doctor of Satan), who represents the modernism and westernization of the Muslims.

The poem is a masterpiece of Urdu literature, as it combines the poetic devices of rhyme, rhythm, imagery, allegory, irony, and humor. It also reflects Iqbal's deep insight into the history, culture, and psychology of the Muslim world. The poem is a powerful critique of the Muslim decline, as well as a call for reform and revival. It is also a prophetic vision of the future challenges and opportunities for the Muslims.
